VTC (variable timing control) actuator rattle — a distinct metallic rattle from the front of the engine for one to two seconds at cold start, caused by the actuator's locking pin failing to hold. Well documented across the generation.

Transmission 2015-2017

CVT start-clutch judder — shudder and hesitation during low-speed engagement from a stop, attributed to premature clutch pack wear; in worse cases delayed acceleration and failure.

Direct-injection carbon buildup on the intake valves, presenting as misfire and rough running; combined with fuel injector and ignition coil faults this makes the engine the leading complaint category for the generation.

Electrical 2015-2017
