Transmission 2015-2018

8L90 eight-speed torque converter shudder. Dexron VI fluid degrades and loses friction stability, producing a chuggle or shudder at light throttle around 25-60 mph plus harsh 2-3 and 3-4 shifts and clunks. GM issued repeated TSBs, eventually moving to Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP; a class action over the 8-speed reached settlement in 2023.

Engine 2014-2018

AFM lifter collapse on L83 and L86 V8s. A deactivating lifter fails to re-extend, causing a dead cylinder, misfire codes and wiped camshaft lobes; usually accompanied by elevated oil consumption.

Excessive oil consumption on early direct-injected 5.3L trucks, tied to the AFM system and piston ring design.
