Theta II GDI connecting-rod bearing failure: metallic debris left in the crankshaft oil passages during machining migrates into the connecting-rod oil feeds, restricting oil flow to the bearings. Result is knocking, power loss, bearing seizure, engine stall at speed, and in some cases a punctured block with an oil fire. Recall 15V-568 covered MY2011-2012 2.0L and 2.4L Theta II GDI Sonatas; recall 17V-226 extended it to MY2013-2014.
