Documented problems

Engine block 2006-2008 and early-production 2009

Cylinder block casting flaw on the 1.8L R18 allows the block to crack and seep coolant, leading to overheating, warped cylinder head and eventual engine failure. Honda extended engine block warranty coverage to 10 years from purchase with no mileage limit and replaces the block or full engine at no charge.

Hybrid battery (IMA) 2006-2011 Civic Hybrid

Integrated Motor Assist battery pack degradation causing sharply reduced assist and fuel economy. Honda's remedial software update reduced electric assist to protect the pack, which prompted a class action settlement over the resulting performance and economy loss.
