Intake valve seat and valve guide wear on the Atlas I4/I5 engines. Worn guides destroy the valve stem seals, oil is drawn past the guides, and the valve seats then recess or leak, producing combustion leakage, misfire and a Service Engine Soon lamp. GM extended coverage to 7 years / 100,000 miles for the affected early trucks. 2004-2006 units are materially worse than 2007-2008.
